Headshot of Amanda Emms standing in a sun-streamed forest.

Hi! I’m Amanda Emms and I live right above a skatepark in Winnipeg, Treaty 1 territory. I am a writer, collaborator, volunteer and activist.

My first communications gig was at Tech Manitoba, where I managed a program dedicated to getting more women into tech. I met a lot of incredible people and discovered my passion to help others tell their stories.

Through my experience as a freelancer, I have become an expert at taking on the voice of different organizations and industries. I’ve also honed my craft as a clear and effective communicator.  I am a champion of inclusive language and can help you develop, write and edit your content through this lens.

As a former member of the Winnipeg Underground Film Festival (WUFF), I love experimental film and video. I fuel my passion for housing through the West Broadway Tenants Committee and Social Housing and Human Rights.

I am a proud member of two book clubs, and I like to practice my writing through book reviews. The library is my favourite space.

“Why is the sky blue?” —A fair enough question, and one I have learned the answer to several times. Yet every time I try to explain it to someone or remember it myself, it eludes me. Now I like to remember the question alone, as it reminds me that my mind is a seive, that I am mortal.
